Mpg4.1
( NOT MPG or MPEG)
|
vidc:mpg4 |
Mpg4x.x (wrongly referred to as mpeg
) --
AVI by Microsoft. Known as Mpeg4c32. It is widely accepted that
Microsoft
attempted to take control of the MPG$ standard by coming out with an
avi
version of the codec prior to the MPG consortium having voted a final
standard.
The code had to be completely reworked 3 times. Making matters worse,
M$
refused to rename the files, and since they were not backwardly
compatable
even more distress was created. |

Mpg4.2
( NOT MPG or MPEG)
|
vidc:mp42 |
For a few months 4.2 wasn't
supported - now
some can download it from M$, others can't. If you can't, after
re
downloading wmp6.4, get the mpeg4.x files to play, you might want to
try
the Smr patch (look for the "smr patch" between current newsgroups and
Powerpost). |
|
|
Mpg4.3
( NOT MPG or MPEG)
|
vidc:mp43 |
For alnost a year mpeg43 was not
supported,
now with the "new Media Player 6.4 and 7.1" they are all back - Mostly.
If you still can't, after re downloading wmp6.4, get the mpeg4.x files
to play, you might want to try the Smr patch (look for the "smr patch"
between current newsgroups and Powerpost). |

current codecs in decoding/reading. Codec should load with the standard
Microsoft bundle Codec download with it's player. |
|
|
Techsmith
|
vidc:tscc |
The standalone TechSmith Screen
Capture Codec.
Used often for live stream capture of video content. Look for the

Camtasia download. |

Avi
|
vidc.avi0 |
AVI -- NativeVideo for Windows
format.
AVI video codec developedby Intel for
Microsoft
as M$ started to compeate with Apple. Multiple codecs used this as
their
startiing point. The sample here is only 1 second long, and still is
three
times larger than any other clip here. |
